Free baked potatoes at The Boston Bar - today
The Boston Bar on Hanover Street is launching the Boston Spud Co on Wednesday serving up baked potatoes with "bold toppings". At the launch free baked potatoes will be offered on a first come first served basis from 11am.
Diners are promised "big, fluffy, buttery spuds loaded with a mix of comforting, character-filled toppings".
Usually each potato will cost £8 with a half pint of any draft or a soft drink on weekdays from 11am to 4pm.
Owner Edward Fox said: “We’re really excited to launch Boston Spud Co. as a new chapter for The Boston Bar. We wanted to create something that felt fun, filling and full of flavour – something that gives people a reason to look forward to lunch again. The baked potato is such a classic, but we’ve given it a Boston twist with bold toppings and great value. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite on your break or sitting in with a pint, we think it’s going to hit the spot.”

Victoria Crowe at 80
The artist Victoria Crowe will be 80 this year. A new exhibition at The Scottish Gallery, Decades, will reflect on her work with art displayed over two floors of The Scottish Gallery (from 31 July) and also at Dovecot Studios (from 26 July) where her relationship with the weaving studio will be celebrated with Shifting Surfaces and exhibition inviting audiences to explore the collaboration behind the textile masterpieces.
The artist said: “As I approach my 80th birthday, I have created a new body of work that looks back to move forward, which I hope offers a nuanced look at my artistic progression and approach over the years. By weaving together the strands of memory, place, and emotional depth, I have revisited past explorations whilst still engaging with ongoing concerns.”
