Bridges Across Borders - Tracing Ukrainian Roots in the Heart of Edinburgh tour
If you fancy something a bit different then contact Nataliya and book a place on the tour of the city centre to find out more about the links between Edinburgh and Ukraine.
One is that Edinburgh is twinned with Kyiv, and has been since 1989, but there are many more ways that the Scottish capital already had links with Ukraine long before the current conflict began.
The two hour long walk will take you up to Calton Hill stopping to look at St Andrews House which is the administration side of The Scottish Government. There we learned that St Andrew is also known in Ukraine and there is a monument to him in Kyiv.
Nataliya is Ukrainian and she came to live here in April 2022 quickly followed by other members of her family. Now she is a tour guide in Edinburgh showing the places with a material embodiment of the connections. She is full of information about the sights on the tour and clearly well-known to the many Ukrainians who frequent the Ukrainian Club on Regent Terrace.
And there is food - Ukrainian food! Those who are on the tour end with a taster plate of Ukrainian goodies at The Square Cafe where borscht is on the menu along with other Ukrainian delicacies such as varenyky - which is a Ukrainian dumpling.
Book your place here or find nine friends to go with you. Meet at The National (National art gallery of Scotland), The Mound, Edinburgh EH2 2EL at noon. Your guide Nataliya will be waiting for you in front of the gallery, holding a Women in Travel CIC sign.
