Five things you need to know today
Go dancing at the library, plans for pedestrianisation of George Street by 2030, and Edinburgh Tool Library expands.
George Street pedestrianisation
The plans to reorganise George Street are progressing, albeit slowly, and years after first planned, but according to latest estimates the project will be cheaper than thought.
The cost estimate for the full project now that the technical design phase has been completed, have reduced from £39.45 million to £35.07 million. The cost of simply maintaining George Street in its current state was estimated at £10.3 million - which could not be paid for from any external funding.
Although the council has yet to identify where the money will come from to pay for the major public realm project, officers are keen to move forward with the plans for this major public realm project first mooted several years ago.
Edinburgh Tool Library
The library has a new storage container installed at The Pitt which mens they can expand their borrowing and skill-sharing services in the capital.
The former wood storage container is being recycled from Move On Wood Recycling, and it means that the organisation is ready for donations of your tools - which must be in good working order.
